Using Telesto “dry” mist for extinguishing fires literally changes the “fire protection paradigm” and provides the potential for pinpoint accurate suppression and minimizing or total avoidance of collateral water damage. In traditional sprinkler systems, flame detector sensors are relatively insensitive to heat and activate only when a fire has reached a rather large size. This is to insure against false alarms because unnecessary activation of a sprinkler system could cause significant losses in water damage. Telesto “dry” mist systems on the hand utilize extremely sensitive detectors. Here, thanks to the fact so little water is used to create “dry” mist and the mist’s particles typically evaporate before they wet an object , the emphasis is on fast response, fast extinguishing and minimal damage, regardless of whether it’s due to flames or water.
